-- Hansen is a pioneer artist of minimalism painting in Indonesia.

His art is a successfull blend of Eastern and Western influences. Drawing his inspiration from Eastern symbols and Chinese calligraphy, Hansen then adds his own innovative processes to this very classical discipline.

Intentional distortion is another Hansen art form, as brush strokes from the original symbols and characters are simplified until they are almost unrecognisable, thereby creating a unique art form reflective of Hansen's deep contemplative state.

Hansen does not fix any particular importance to the meaning of the symbols or characters, concentrating instead on the visual effects produced on the canvas. Because of this, it is not necessary to understand Eastern culture or ancient character symbols in order to appreciate and enjoy his work.

The bold and simple colours, characters and symbols allow the viewer to approach the painting with his or her own interpretation, thus establishing an intimate link between the artist and his audience.---
